SXSW is coming....you can almost feel it in the air. The musicians overload on too many gigs and free daytime beers, the locals dread the crowds and parking fiascos, and the tourists all swear its time to finally make that move and head south permanently.
For once I won't be schlepping my gear to dozens of gigs, instead just playing a few select showcases ...and trying to secretly stalk Garth Brooks, or at least go to his keynote speech.
To kick things off, Tuesday afternoon I'm playing a show at the Earl Campbell's Sports bar at the Austin Airport. Extra handy since my sister Tara will be flying in from Fairbanks as part of the KSUA radio team.
I'll be playing an Official SXSW Showcase with my Project ATX6 mates, Saturday March 18th at the Palm Door on Sabine. There will be tickets available at the door for non-badge holders - I'll update when I know the cover amount.
I'm also performing at Willie is for Everyone: A Willie Nelson tribute for Families, Friday March 17th at the Scottish Rite Theater. I'll be joined by Sophia Johnson and Tara Chrisman on harmony vocals. Later that night, I'll be joining the Stovetop Rangers for a rowdy oldtime show at Ginny's Little Longhorn.
Other than that, please check out my show calendar - I'm fronting my country band The Morning Afters most Fridays at the White Horse, doing a few acoustic duo/trio gigs, and playing with my friends Devin Jake, Sophia Johnson, and Jesse Ebaugh.
See ya on the honkytonk merry-go-round!

It's mid-February so that means one thing...Folk Alliance! I'll be heading to the Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City tomorrow with a great crew of folks, something we're calling the Austin Roots Collective. I'd been talking with my friends Silas Lowe and Sophia Johnson about going to the conference, and we realized we could all back up each others sets. We recruited Jesse Ebaugh (from the Heartless Bastards) to join us on bass, and now we have a band with three of my favorite Austin songwriters & pickers, all with roots in performing traditional American music - bluegrass, old-time , swing and honkytonk.
If you happen to be at Folk Alliance, come see us! If not, we hope to see you around Austin or on the road this summer.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the 3TEN ACL Live show last night!
And especially to Peter Blackstock for the great review & video in the Austin Statesman.

BIG SHOW this week! I'm performing at 3TEN ACL Live Thursday Dec. 15th, as part of a Project ATX6 showcase, with Jai Malano and Quiet Company.
I've got a killer band too, featuring my first Austin landlord on bass - Kevin Smith (Heybale, Willie Nelson) and one of the funkiest, soulful guitar slingers in Austin - Doug Strahan (the Moonhangers, Chili Cold Blood). We're playing a short opening set at 8pm, hope to see you there!
Tickets are available online and at the door. Advance $10, Door $12
